Great list! Indeed you will see more corporate and educational use. I used to speak about using Second Life as an eLearning application (to create video, not to do teaching in) but now am only doing presentations about OpenSim (namely Reaction Grid).

Once we get our little grid squared away, we will come on like gang busters evangelising OpenSim! (lol, the other part of "we" is Ener Hax - that's a one heck of a spin machine!).

Thank you Justin for the work that you so passionately do and for creating a truly wonderful alternative to Second Life.

Mesh support not being included in Second Life 2.0 does not mean that it isn't coming. It is already in closed alpha stage. People are using it now.

To say otherwise is very misleading.

Hi! Nice predictions. I just wanted to make a comment about number 8. Thank you for linking to our blog about Mesh Support in SL. I want to clarify that Mesh Support in SL is not a rumor, it just will not be part of SL 2.0. I have personally been using SL 2.0 alpha for over a month now. While it is great as far as the look and organization goes, there are no new features that I noticed. It really is only about the new UI design. Having stated that, I know others who are currently using the alpha version of Mesh Support and they say it is working great! Open Beta versions of both SL 2.0 and Mesh Support are supposed to be coming early in February. It will be interesting to see what OpenSim does with Mesh as well!

@Nink - I agree about the shying away, but in some respects that's precisely why the alpha tag is in place. I think we would do long-term damage to our credibility if we dropped it before we felt that the project was ready.

I hope your wrong about number 1. Opensim is much more stable than dozens of other "Beta" and GA code virtual world platforms. Education and research will experiment with Alpha but companies will continue to shy away from the Opensim if it is Alpha and we will not see any large customers jump on board in a serious way until we get out from under the Alpha monica.
